FOOTBALL.
The following will represent the Northern Third grade reps, in a trial game to be played at Weraroa Domain at 2.40 p.m. on Saturday:— Huff (Fx.), Palmer (Wer.), H. Jones (Wand.), Finlayson (Wand.), Holden (Shn.), Holden (Shn.), Woollett (Wer.), Walton (Wer.), Williams (Wand.), Whyman (Wand.), Small (Shn.), Tipler (Shn.), Smith (Fx.), Butler (Wer.), Wilkinson (Wand.) Reserves.— Backs: Chambers (Wer.), Hartley (Fx.); forwards: Maloney (Wand.), Urwin (Toko.) Poxton and Shannon Juniors will meet at the racecourse on Saturday in the Knock-out Competition and an exciting game should result. In the event of a draw when time is called, two extra spells of ten minutes each will, be played. The married v. single match played on the racecourse yesterday afternoon resulted in a win for the bachelors by 20 points to 17. The benedicts put up a strenuous fight, but the “young bloods” were a bit too nippy for them. The previous match ended in a draw.
On a muddy ground in the presence of a good crowd at Palmerston North yesterday, Napier High School drew with Palmerston North Boys’ High School in the twentyfifth annual game between the two schools. ■ The game ended 3 all, each side scoi’ed an unconverted try.
The Otago Rugby representatives defeated Manawhenua at Dunedin yesterday by 11 points (three tries, one converted) to 9 points (three unconverted tries). During the game a University student, Thomas Haughton, received injuries to the head which necessitated his removal to hospital. Stevenson replaced Westwood in the three-quarter line.
