FOXTON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

LADIES’ SOCIAL GUILD. The seventeenth annual business meeting of the Presbyterian Ladies’ Social Guild was held in the church on Monday afternoon. Mrs. Nicholas presided, and the annual report was read by the secretary and balance-sheet submitted by the treasurer. Both were adopted and favourably commented upon. All the officers were unanimously reelected for the ensuing year and the hope was expressed that the eighteenth year would prove even more successful than those prceeding. The seventeenth annual social meeting of the guild was held at the home of Airs. J. Thomson, Thvnne Street, on Thursday evening. There was an excellent attendance of members, friends and their escorts. Novel competitions for both ladies and gentlemen were keenly entered into and caused much interest and amusement. Afiss Patterson and Airs. Alexander won the ladies prizes respectively. A beautiful and tasty supper was dispensed by the hostess (Airs. Thomson) and willing assistants. Before dispersing, Airs. Nicholas (president), on behalf of the members of the guild, in a very pleasing little speech asked Airs. J. Ross to accept a gift of stainless knives as a mark of appreciation from the guild, for acting as secretary for the past twelve years. They also all hoped she would carry on for another twelve years.

The recipient was taken by surprise and feelingly acknowledged the token of appreciation of her work. “For she’s a jolly good fellow” was heartily sung. Mrs. Thomson was thanked for the enjoyable evening, provided.
