EIGHTEEN MONTHS ON BIGAMY CHARGE.

Auckland, August (5. Ernest Heap pleaded guilty to a charge of bigamy at the Supreme Court to-day was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment, cumulative with a sentence he is serving for failing to maintain his second wife. His wife left him in 1913, and got to England. He had written to her, but got no replies. In 1919 he went through a form of marriage with his second wife.

Judge Reed said that prisoner’s offence was a serious one. He had gone through a form of marriage without making any inquiries whether his wife was alive.
