SHANNON BOWLING CLUB
The president (Mr. B. J. Brann) presided over a fair attendance of members at the,annual meeting in the club pavilion on Wednesday evening. Regarding the past season, the president reported that the season was a successful one, both financially and as regards play. With a membership of 37 the club was faced with a loss of three old and prominent members, Messrs J. V. Burns, T. Watterston and A. McLachlan. Mr. Brann then referred to the loss the club had suffered through ■ the incapacity of Mr. W. H. Gunning. Mr. Gunning was one of the founders of the Shannon Bowling and Tennis Club in 1905, and had never ceased to develop bowling in Shannon. After reviewing the season’s wins and losses Mr. Brann thanked the vice-president (Mi\ Morgan), the_secretary (Mr. Mason) and the members of the various committees for the help they had given him. The balance-sheet, which was adopted showed a debit of £2O 17s 5d at the commencement of the year, which was reduced at the close of the season to £5 8s lid. The final payment on the electric light installation has been made.
The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — President: Mr. A. H. Morgan; vicepresident: Mr. A. Blackwood; secretary and treasurer: Mr. A. Mason; committee: Messrs McLaggan, Bovis, Clayton, White, Wlhibley, and Lee; selection committee: Messrs Clayton, Knowles, and E. Butt; delegate to centre: Mi’. E. Spencer; auditor: Mr. J. T. Bovis; green committee: the president and secretary. It was resolved that the secretary’s services be recognised by giving him free membership for the season. It was decided to recommend to the Levin and Foxton clubs that Otaki be included in the triangular shield games. It was also resolved that in future no pairs or singles championship games or competitions matches be played on Wednesday or Saturday .afternoons, and that these afternoons be set aside for club games to- be arranged by the green committee.
