PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
REPORTS PRESENTED TO ANNUAL MEETING. The following reports were read and received at the annual meeting of the Foxton Presbyterian Church on Monday evening:LADIES’ SOCIAL GUILD. .. “Seventeen years have passed since the Presbyterian Ladies’ Social Guild was organised by Mesdaines Aitkcn and Wrigley. The August meeting will be the first of the eighteenth year. There have been many changes, and only three or four of the original members are left. The guild has kept up very well and has had much pleasure in being able to assist the managers of the church both socially and financially at various times. At the annual meeting of the guild last year it was decided to give £ls towards church debt liquidation. This depleted the funds of the guild, but by the aid of the winter monthly evening socials, organised by the guild, we were able to pay as usual the salary of the organist. Two socials carried out by the guild members and an extra one by non-mem-bers were very successful. Two socials have been held this winter, but the attendance has not been as good as was expected. There have only been eight guild meetings last year. The October meeting was the extra social in the schoolroom at which Mr. and Mrs. Downs were farewelled. fn November the guild assisted at the social afternoon, organised by the P.W.M.U. Owing to t lie intense heat, it was thought advisable not to hold any social meetings until March this year. The guild regrets the departure from the district of Mesdames Downs, Jack and Kennedy, and these ladies were presented with mementoes from the guild. Two new members, namely Mesdames Currie and Garbett were welcomed this year. Owing to so much sickness prevailing the attendance at the meetings has not been so good as usual, but it is hoped that this will be a more successful year.” P.W.M.U. REPORT. “We have, as a branch, just completed our eleventh year of existence. As was natural many changes have taken place during that period. We have at times been much discouraged by the loss of valued members, hut though greatly reduced in numbers, we are thankful to report that we are still holding on, hoping for better times; and still able in a small way to help in the good work that is dear to us all. This last year we have had Mrs. Nicholas as our president, who is deeply interested in mission work. She was appointed our delegate to the Christchurch conference in November, and gave us a most interesting account of the meetings then held, which were most helpful and stimulating, and which she had greatly enjoyed. During the year we had nine meetings, conducted in the usual manner. Many interesting letters from our Foreign and Maori missionaries were read, and at our last meeting we had the pleasure of hearing an address from Miss McKee, travelling secretary, on the work especially carried on among the Maoris. She took us in thought to the various mission stations, and gave us an insight into what was being done in each one, and it was indeed a most interesting story. We have sent parcels of clothing to Sister Annie, and to India by Mrs. Gray, also a donation instead of goods to Mrs. Milne, New Hebrides. A social afternoon was held in November, which was successful in helping financially. We pray that the blessing of God may rest upon us throughout our new year, and that we may take a deeper interest in all that concerns the coming of vChrist’s Kingdom. ‘Lord of tho Harvest let there be joy and strength to work for Thee.’”
