FOXTON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING.

The annual congregational meeting of the Pox ton Presbyterian Church was held last night, when there was a satisfactory attendance. In the absence of the Moderator, Rev. G. T. Brown, Mr. W. H. Nicholas presided.

A welcome was extended to Mr. and Mrs. Stevenson and family, who have taken up their residence in Foxton. Mr. Stevenson, who is an elder of the church, consented to officiate in that capacity locally. The secretary (Mr. John Ross), submitted a statement of receipts and expenditure for the year, which disclosed an improved position over last year.

'Plie financial position was discussed and special mention made of the assistance rendered by the Ladies’ Social Guild. A good response had been made to the free will offerings, and the envelope system and ordinary collections remained about the same. A suggestion that a bazaar be held did not meet with approval. The minister’s report reviewed the work of the year and stated inter alia that the week-night combined services had been abandoned; services had been conducted at the seaside, the Sabbath school was progressing satisfactorily, but two more teachers were required to cope with the work; a fortnightly cottage meeting was held at the home

of Mrs. Barber senr., Lady’s Mile; thanks were accorded members for donations and special work. The report concluded:

“I would like to take this occasion to thank the managers for their loyalty and sympathy, ami also all our people who hv their prayers and helpfulness have endeavoured to make our work''successful. I would point out that there are difficult times ahead, hut l believe that all difficulties can he overcome if our prayers to, and faith in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is earnest and true. Problems will he solved not as we want them solved, but as our Heavenly Father sees best. , We pray God’s best blessing on you and our church this coming year.”

Messrs Hornblow and Barron, on behalf of the congregation, paid tributes to the faithful work of the minister and Mrs. Nicholas during the year.

Reports were received and favourably commented upon from the P.W.M.U. and the Ladies’ Social Guild.

The outgoing committee with the following additions were unanimously re-elected: Messrs Nicholls (Oroua Downs), George, Couch, .Judd, and Alesdames Thomson, Barron, McEwen and Satherley.

The election of secretary and treasurer was referred to the committee.

Air. Conch was elected choirmaster and it was decided to hold an evening song service once a month.

Azotes of thanks were passed to the Ladies’ Social Guild, P.W.M.U., organist (Aliss Patterson), Sunday school teachers, and office bearers.

At the conclusion of the meeting a social hour was spent and supper dispensed.
