The unconscious humour of a police constable giving evidence in a motor prosecution ease raised a laugh in the Southland Police Court. Witness stated that when defendant was questioned about the ownership of a car he refused to make any reply. “Did he know you were constables?” it was asked. “Oh, yes,” was the naive reply. “He knew we were policemen; we weren’t wearing our uniforms, but we had our trousers on.”
