BOARD ENGINEER’S REPORT. At the Ilorowhenua Electric Power Board’s monthly meeting on Friday, the engineer (Mr. J. A. Smith) presented the following report covering the period since the previous meeting: — During the period 1!) new service lines have been run; extra phases on three existing services; and one temporary service has been put in. Thirty-eight poles were carted, fitted, and erected, and 352 chains of wire were run out. Five new street lights have been erected. Extensions of line have been made at Marotiri, Otaki Railway, Tasman Beach, Cambridge Street, Levin; and poles erected at Hea-therlea-Koputaroa Road. Heavier cables have been run at Kuku to cope with increased load of ranges. Transformer at Soldiers’ Road, Kuku, was changed to 25 K.W. Alterations have been made to the Shannon-Foxton line at Moutoa, on account of the road alterations at the new bridge. In conjunction with this work, an A.B. line switch was erected and alterations made to insulators on the II pole at the Manawatu River. The alterations involved the moving of six poles, one sub-station, and two service lines.
,Some extension pieces have been put on P. and T. poles newly erected, at Potts’ Road, Levin, and Levin Borough, to give the necessary clearance.
Owing~to the closing down of the Mukepae Flaxmill for an indefinite period, the 100 k.v.a. transformer was .taken out and replaced with a 25 k.v.a.
Some E.H.T. line at Moutoa was restrained, also the L.T. 4 circuit from No. 1 Sub., Moutoa, and wider cross-arms fitted where necessary. The subs, at Ross, Rough’s and Nye’s Mill have been overhauled, iron work scraped and painted. Earth testing has been carried out on Levin-Foxton and LevinOtaki circuits, and the usual street lamp renewals, complaints and general maintenance have been attended to.
Installations. —During the period 18 applications from new consumers and 26 applications for extensions to existing installations have been received, comprising five ranges, 12 waterheaters, six milking motors, two industrial and three pumping motors. Fourteen new consumers, and 23 extensions have been connected, including three ranges, six waterheaters, two milking motors, and four industrial motors. Thirty-one single phase meters have been tested, 13 repaired and re-tested, and five polyphase meters repaired. The peak load for the quarter ended 30th June was 143.85 k.v.a. between 8 and 8.30 a.m. on the 26th April.
