THE BIG FIGHT.
GETTING THE NEWS.
TO-MORROW AFTERNOON.
The big fight is timed to commence at the New York Stadium at 9 "p.m, New York time, but preliminary palaver, introduction, and so on, will probably account best part of half an hour. The gong will therefore probably go at about 9.30 p.m. on Thursday. We are well ahead of New York on time, and 9.30,p.m. on Thursday therefore is 2 p.m. on Friday here. Descriptions broadcasted from the' ringside will reach New Zealand practically instantaneously, but probably little more than the bare result will be sent to New Zealand by cable. If the fight lasts the full fifteen rounds —three minutes each and a minute between rounds —it will be over by 3 p.m. (New Zealand time). RUNNING DESCRIPTIONS.
The Wellington broadcast station, 2YA, will be on the air from midday on Friday. “Everything will be done to make the best possible job of the re-broadcast of the New York descriptions on the usual 2YA wave length,” said Mr. Davies, “but the success of the attempt will depend almost entirely on the conditions here. There is not much doubt about the descriptions, sent out on short wave, reaching us, but trouble may be caused by ‘howlers.’ The short-wave receiver on Mount Victoria will not only pick up the New York descriptions, but it will gather in the howls from oscillating sets, and as there is no means by which these extraneous noises can be removed from the re-broadcast from 2YA, the reception by Wellington listeners, using standard broadcast receiving sets, may not be all they may wish. If short-wavje enthusiasts >anjd experimenters cannot get clear reception, but persist in forcing their receivers they will do no gooff for themselves and may spoil things for every one else.”
