MOTOR ACCIDENT.
BISHOP CLEARY INJURED. Auckland, July 23. The Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, Dr. Cleary, and Father Martindale, an eminent Jesuist who is visiting New Zealand, suffered injuries in a motor collision while on their way from Taupo to Hamilton to-day and are now in the Waikato Hospital. Dr. Cleary has a cut on the chin, and his legs and chest are bruised. He is suffering considerably from shock. Father Martindale received cuts on the face, which bled profusely. The car, driven by Dr. Cleary, reached a rorner leading to a declivity at Tamahere between Cambridge and Hamilton, when it collided with another car, driven by a farmer, A. E. Discombe. Both vehicles were badly damaged. Discombe and a passenger, Miss Hulme, also suffered cuts and abrasions.
Dr. Cleary and Father Martindale were attended by a local doctor before removal to hospital.
The full effect of the accident on Dr. Cleary will not be known for some days.
