“Great Thoughts.”—The principal contents of this new magazine are “A Statesman’s Secrets,” “Essayeists of To-day,” by G. K. Chesterton; “My Glaciers;” “Lessons in Listening;” “Emotion in Art;” “Charles Lamb;” “Playtime and Peril;” “The Street of Adventure,” etc. Well illustrated. Hutchinson’s Adventure and Mystery Story Magazine for June is replete with good exciting stories by the leading writers, including William Le Queux’s last novel, “The Great International Secret.” Over 170 pages of good reading matter.

A husband and wife at Havelock North had three children in the Napier Hospital, with a correspondingly large bill to meet. Then tthey bought a valuable cow, and though she was driven home with the greatest care, next morning they found her dead in the paddock. “There was a time when I could take my wife and child to the kainga and by digging from the kumara patch and the pipi bed get all the food we required and live comfortably with the tribe, but now those times have gone,” said Mr. J. Rukutai, president of the Akaran> Maori Association, in introducing a deputation to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board at Auckland.
