FOLLY OF STRIKES
WHAT WOMEN MIGHT DO,
MR, BRUCE’S OPINION
Addressing a meeting of women at Perth, Western Australia, recently, the Prime Minister of Australia, Mr Bruce, said that there were many terrible doctrines floating all over the world, and some of the men who preached them were ox Ira ordinarily stupid. The women of Australia could do far more than all the men put together/ and if the Government could arouse their enthusiasm and get them on its side they would give it the greatest measure of help. Women, said Mr Bruce, could make men see the folly of strikes. Labour officials had refused to agree to his proposal to bring both sides of industry together, a iu> the proposal had fallen through. He v.as convinced that this was not the attitude of the rank and fiie, who needed only a little persuasion to get the value of co-operation into their heads.
