FOXTON UNITED SPORTS ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING,

The annual meeting of the Foxton United Sports Association was held in the Racing Club office last evening presided over by Mr. W. T. Jewell (President). There was a large attendance of members.

CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows :

(From the secretary of the Hastings Club, asking the Association if it would make some donation towards defraying the medical expenses of C. E. Lowe, who sus-tained-serious injury at the last local meeting. It was mentioned that Lowe was still on crutches and that there was a possibility of him having to have one of his legs re-bro-ken.

The secretary reported that he had written the Hastings Club intimating that the local Association had placed all its surplus funds on fixed deposit at the conclusion of the last meeting and was unable to assist financially until after the next sports meeting. The chairman said that he was sure all were sympathetic with the request but the position was exactly as outlined by the secretary. At present the only assistance injured riders received was from the N.Z.A.C.U. fund which was made up by levy and in his opinion insufficient. He considered the N.Z.A.C.U. should insure all riders under a comprehensive policy. jMr. S. Austin said he did not think any insurance . office would accept such a risk. It was decided to refer the request for assistance to the incoming committee with the recommendation that they give it sympathetic consideration. From the N.Z.A.C.U., notifying that the annual conference will be held in Marton on August Bth, and

that remits should be in the hands of the secretary not later than July 18th. —Received. BALANCE-SHEET. The balance-sheet disclosed a satisfactory state of affairs. j»penditure for the year totalled £463 3s 5d and receipts £478 13s 4d, showing a credit balance of £ls 9s lid. The statement of assets and liabilities showed an excess of assets over liabilities of £142 is 9d, which included a sum of £9O 16s 8d in the Post Office Savings Bank. The secretary (Mr. R. McMurray) said that the Association had .commenced the year with a credit balance of £9 19s 7d and £SO in the Post Office Savings Bank. Besides adding to the plant during the year the Association had been able to

take out a certificate for £IOO in the bank and had a credit balance to commence the year with. This would be reduced somewhat by the liabilities indicated in the balancesheet. The membership had reached its highest peak during the year with 60 members. He considered an additional 40 members would stabilise the finance of the Association to a considerable extent. He recommended a larger race book for next meeting which, if adopted would mean increased advertising; and a more expeditious method of handling nominations and acceptances. In conclusion he thanked the auditor, treasurer and Rev. Walton for assistance during the past year.

The President, in moving; the adoption of the report and bal-ance-sheet, congratulated members on the excellent state of affairs as disclosed by the balance-sheet. The assets during the year had increased. from £93 12s Id to £142 Is 9d. The position was entirely satisfactory and he had hardly thought at the commencement of the Association that it would assure such large proportions. The expenditure last year totalled £478, and of this amount prize money alone had accounted for £l5B. That was positive proof that the Association was doing good work. The Association had received the support of' all the racing community and had attained a higlv reputation both for its prizemoney and the manner in which the sports were conducted. The latter reflected the greatest credit on all concerned. The secretary’s suggestion in connection with augmenting the membership list was a good one, and he hoped each member would bring along one or two additional members. A good membership meant an finance, and if 100 members were obtained the expense in connection with secretarial and office work would be covered and the sports would be left to pay for itself. If members showed the same interest in the Association this year as they had in the past they could rest assured that the Association would have a successful year. In conclusion the President thanked the members for their assistance and support accorded him during the past year. The report and balance-sheet were then adopted. RACING PERMIT CANCELLED.

The President reported that the Racing Conference had cancelled the Association's racing permit owing to the fact that the permit had not been availed of. He did not anticipate any difficulty in the future, however, of obtaining another permit if the Association ever considered it advisable to hold a meeting of horse events. The Association had refrained from -using the permit on the grounds of economy. He did not think the time opportune for the holding of such a meeting, and if it was pointed out to the Conference that the Association's motives had been economy and done with a view to conserving the Association’s funds then he was sure that a further permit would be granted.

He could lay claim to having been connected with the Association since its inception, as it was he and Mr. Parkin who had convened the first meeting, His work in connection with the Association had been a labour of love, as sport had always received his best interest. It was .very gratifying to have such an enthusiastic body of men connected with the Association without which it could not have made the progress it had. Messrs C. M. Hewett, and W. S v Heyes, were elected new members. MANAWATU SPORTS TO BE HELD AT FONTON. The President reported that in all probability the Manawatu Motor Cycle Club would hold their sports at Foxton next year. They had been refused the use of the Ashhurst course, and as the Foxton | Racing Club had altered their racing'dates the course would not be in use locally on Anniversary Day. It would be a courteous thing to invite the Manawatu Club down to Foxton if the course could be procured. It was decided to write the Foxton Racing Club and ask for the use of the course on 22nd January for the Manawatu Motor Cycle Club. MOTOR TRIALS AT THE BEACH. The President said that it would be a good idea to endeavour to have the motor cycle and car trial events to be organised by the Manawatu Cycle Club, held on the local beach. Such events would go a long way to popularise and advertise the resort. Mr. M. E. Perreau suggested that the matter be referred to the Chamber of Commerce. GENERAL. It was decided that in the opinion of the Association the executive of the N.Z.C.A.U. should consider and report at the earliest date possible on a comprehensive scheme of insurance which will ensure an adequate allowance to riders injured whilst competing at motor sports. It was decided to hold the sports on Labour Day as usual. Mr. S. Austin was appointed delegate to the Union It was decided to apply for the three championship events this year.

It was decided to ask the executive of the N.Z.A.C.U. to consider the desirability of amending procedure in connection with the nomination, and acceptance of motor sports meetings in accordance with the system adopted by Racing Clubs, thereby saving considerable secretarial work and unnecessary printing in programmes.
