BOXING.

FIGHT FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP.

HEENEY CONFIDENT-

DEMPSEY AS SPARRING PARTNER, New York, July 7. “It makes me laugh to read these American sporting articles calling Tunney a six to one shot for the coining match, for I feel certain I can turn the tables,” said Heeney to-night, after one of his best boxing days. The New Zealander will scale 19G lb- on entering the ring, eight or ten pounds heavier than Tunney, and the challenger believes this will in reality be in his favour. “I’m one of those who believe that a tighter, to keep in trim, must keep on fighting. That’s what I’ve been doing during the past year, and that’s what Tunney has not been doing. Why, Risko and Paulino offered tougher problems for me than Tunney. Tunney’s a superb boxer, but not a stayer, and lie’s not as hard a hitter as either Risko or Paolino.”

There is no doubt Tom .is supremely confident of his own chances, of winning, and he is inperfect condition. Both men will enter the ring in the absolute pink. Both are superior, elcaJi-Rving fellows, who will provide a real show. A message from Fairhaven, New Jersey, states that Dempsey, who is due to arrive here on July 20, will give advice to Heeney, and probably spar with him during the last days of his training.
