GRANT TO SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

LEST there should be any misunderstanding arising out of the Borough Council’s discussion last night re the D.II. School Committee’s application for a grant of £ls towards cost of sloping and turfing the division between the Borough Council’s reserve' and the school property, we may point out that the committee has no power to expend money other than on its own ground. In order to make the grade conform to the hill slope the committee had to carry on extraordinary work on the Council’s properly and made a request for half cost of same, assessed at £ls. The Council reduced the grant to £lO and we leave the public to judge as to whether the grant represents value received. With a full knowledge of the work undertaken and the cost of same, wc heartily compliment those engaged for their splendid service.
