Mr. C. Simmons lias been appointed organiser for the Manawatu branch of the Licensed Victuallers’ Association. Mr. Sidey's Bill for the re-enact-ment of Daylight Saving was read a first time in the House yesterday. The second reading will take place on July 25th. Wanganui ratepayers by 2413 votes to 1924 decided to revert to the system of rating on annual values instead of rating on the unimproved value.
Mr. Holland, M.P., for Christchurch North, has given notice to
introduce the Religious Exercises in Schools Bill during the present session.
The closing down of the general rolls of electors throughout New Zealand will take place on July 5. The closing date for the supplementary rolls, which will be printed later, has not yet been fixed.
Good progress is being made with the re-erection of the store at Manawatu Heads, which was recently destroyed by lire. The new building should be ready Cor occupation in a few weeks.
It was mentioned at Thursday’s Manawatu Rabbit Board meeting that wild ferrets never made their appearance during the day-time but confined their marauding .expeditions to the night-time. Stoats and weasels, on the other hand, frequently hunted in the daytime and could often be seen at play outside burrows.
Mr. .T. B. Iline has consented to contest the Stratford seat at the general election. Until a meeting of Reform Party adherents is held shortly it will not be known whether Mr. Hine will be put forward as the official Reform candidate. Mr. Hine represented the district in Parliament from 1908 to 1919. In view of the Education Board’s condemnation of the proposed regulations governing appointments to training college stall's, the Minister of Education (Hon. R. A. Wright) stated that he had decided not to ask Cabinet to recommend the issue of an Order-in-Counsil, and in consequence the regulations will proceed no further.
Mr. J. F. MoKelvie mentioned at the meeting of the Manawatu Rabbit Board on Thursday that as a result of the eradication of the rabbit pest on his property grass was gelling a strong hold on country lliat had never had a chance with the rabbits about. Clover was also to be seen growing profusely in in-nv parts. Other members had a" : . experienced similar results on p.eir respective farms. M»\ Gloyn mentioned at Thursday’s Rabbit. It was making its appearance in many parts of the Manav, a|u district. Personally he had experienced very good results from ihe application to the growth of a hi- product from coal manufactured at the Wanganui gas works.
