FARM LABOURER’S END.
STRYCHNINE IN A CUP
Invercargill, June 20,
When the employer of James Connor, single, farm labourer, aged 38, called at the latter’s hut at Aparima on Tuesday to ascertain why he had not continued his work, he found the door locked from the inside. As there was no response to his knock ho broke open the door and found Connor lying dead on the lied with a mug containing strychnine and water alongside. It is stated that on Monday last Connor called at the farmhouse of Mr. E. S. Dickson and complained of the .prevalence of mice in his hut, and asked for some strychnine to poison the pests. He was given a bottle in powdered foim and warned to be careful. An inquest was opened ti-day and adjourned for further inquiries to be made.
