MOTOR ACCIDENT ON HIMATANGI ROAD.
LORRY AND CAR COLLIDE
At about 11.30 pan .on Tuesday a motor car and a lorry came into violent collision on the Himatangi Road about half a mile south of .Mr. S. J. Hartley’s residence and near the Chinese market garden. Fortunately no one was injured. The car belonged to Mr. A. Sexton, of Himatangi and the lorry was driven by Mr. Jesse Bridge, of AJarton.
Mr. Sexton was proceeding info Fox ton and the lorry, which was laden with four tons of benzine, was proceeding northwards. The force of the impact eoiyplctely stripped the driver’s side of Air. Sexton's car, shearing off both wheels, mudguards and running board, and threw the car on to the railway line. The lorry, with its heavy load, careered on and skidding in the loose metal, swerved over the road and ended up with its front wheels over the railway line and the crankcase resting on the rails. Mr. Sexton and his two passengers, had a miraculous escape. Mr. A. Stevonsin’s lorry was rekuisitiontd to haul the lorry back on to the road but this proved a considerable undertaking and the cargo of benzine had to be removed before the. vehicle could be righted. It was not until yesterday afternoon that both vehicles were ultimately removed from (he scene of Ihe accident.
