Air. C. Burgess, of the teaching staff of the \\"est End School, Palmerston North, has been appointed headmaster of Dalefleld School, Carterton, and will commence his duties at the beginning of next month.

The death took place at Auckland on Thursday of the Rev William Beatty at his home at Remuera at the age of 72 years. He was for 28 years vicar of St. Alark’s Church, Remuera, and finally had to retire on account of advancing years. The death occurred at Lawrence on Thursday of Air. John Edie, ex-member of Parliament for Clutha. He had been ailing for the last six months, and had been confined to bed for that period suffering from heart weakness. He was in his seventy-third year.
