BOXING
TOM HEENEY’S BROTHERS. FIGHT WANTED PRIOR TO TITLE BOUT. As all the world knows, Tom Heeney of New Zealand has been matched with Gene Tunney for the heavy-weight boxing championship of the world. Three of Tom’s brothers, Jack, Arthur and Pat, are making the journey to America to witness the light and to give him family support. The New Zealander is bound to do his best to win and with his brothers present will be all the more eager to secure the title. The Auckland Sun’s Gisborne correspondent states that Jack Heeney is endeavouring to secure a light as a preliminary to the main contest between his brother and Tunney. All New Zealand will await the result of the Tom Heeney light, and with a brother on the same programme still further interest is sure to be evinced. Jack Heeney last appeared in the ring at Wairoa on October 8, 1927, when he defeated Dick Loveridge on points in 10 rounds. Whether he will be able to emulate his brother in the American ring, if he secures a match, remains to be seen.
