The secretary of the Manawhenua Union, wrote stating that, at the last meeting of the executive, it was decided to recommend to each Rugby Council that, when the senior representative game was being played a “B” representative game be played as a curtain-raiser to the “A” game (to be played at Shannon on July 13th). Provided this could be arranged, the Union would pay £7 10s towards the assembly expenses of Horowhenua’s “B” team. The idea of the game was to give the selectors a chance of seeing a larger number of players in action than in previous yearsv
It was decided that the Manawatu District Council be communicated with, asking them to put a team in the field to meet Horowhcnua “B” on July 13th. This match is to be played at Shannon at 1 p.m., and the “A” rep. match at 2.45 p.m. FOXTON MATTERS. COMBINED REP. MATCHES. The Chairman reported that there was a likelihood of the Wel-lington-Manawhenua match being played at Levin, provided that the Wjellington Union fulfilled its obligations in regard to matches duo to Manawhenua.
'Mi'. Ryder said there were still too many rep. matches on the list, the result of which was a tendency to cripple club football in the district.
The Chairman said he thought that, in consequence of the scheme of classification of unions, there would not be so many rep. games in one season after this year. PRESENTATION OF JERSEYS. TO PRIMARY SCHOOL .RUGBY TEAM. The Foxton Football Club decided to present a set of jerseys to the first fifteen of the primary division Ttugby team, of the Foxton D.H. He hoped they would meet with the same success this year. “Play the game good and hard, /boys,” said Mr. Hfutchirifc, “but play fair and in a sportsmanlike spirit.” Mr. Hutchins related some of his school day football experiences, and contrasted the game
and conditions with the present day. He hoped some day to see from among those present All Black representatives.
Mr. C. Procter, captain of the Foxton seniors, and the school coach, expressed appreciation of the generous gift and hoped the boys would not disgrace them. He said the school team were faced with financial difficulties in the matter of travelling expenses, and he appealed to the public for assistance in this connection. He was pleased to state that ten expupils were members of the Foxton club’s senior team, and others were prominent players in the juniors and thirds, and some would probably represent the district in representative fixtures. The team would do its pest to uphold the prestige of the school. ■Mr. Mason (headmaster), thanked the Foxton Football Clup for its generous gift and for the interest
it evinced in school football. Tho future local players would be drawn from the school team and with such splendid coaches as Messrs Procter and Chipper, should get a good grounding in the finer points of tho game.
