MANAWATU FLAXMILLERS’ ASSOCIATION.

EXECUTIVE MEETING. A meeting of the executive of the Manawatu Flaxmillers’ Association was held in the Racing Club’s office on Thursday afternoon, presided over by Mr. H. A. Seifert. Also present were Messrs A. A. Brown, H. Berry, W. Nye, J. S. Moir, and A. -Fraser. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs A. Seifert, Greig and Broad. • The chairman reported that the Association had not yet received any reply from the Minister of Agriculture in connection with its request that a bonus be provided by the Government for improvements to flaxmilling machinery. It was ,'not six months since the request was made and the Association was entitled to a reply. It was decided to write to the Minister asking for an answer to the Association’s request. Mr. W. A. Speirs wrote enclosing subscription to the Association. —Received. The chairman reported on the result of the Employers’ Federation conference, held in Wellington. Matters in connection with the Industrial Research work was dis cussed and the constitution of the Board gone into. The following resolutions were passed in connection therewith: — That the Association resolves to coyoperatc with kindred bodies and the Department of Scientific Industrial Research in the formation and activities of the Flax Research Board. That the recommendation of the Research Committee set up on the Ist March, be approved as follows: —“That grading charges be increased 2d per bale on. hemp and Id per bale on tow on the understanding that this increased sum will be subsidised £1 for £1 by the Government and used for the purposes of the Flax Research Board.”

That, also, .the committee’s actions be approved as follows: —“In ascertaining the feelings of millers' elsewhere in the Dominion and in calling a conference with the Scientific Research Department.”
