OROUA DOWNS.
EFFORT ON BEHALF OF BEACH HOME. On Tuesday evening the Oroua Downs people held an evening in aid of All Saints’ Beach Home with the result that the usual generous response resulted in many useful articles being donated to the Home. Meat, vegetables, preserves and sundries were brought to the hall, besides a sum of £8 18s Gd which was raised by way of collection. A very enjoyable evening was spent at the hall. Mr. Bird won the iced cake and kindly donated it to the home; Mr. Gibbs and (Miss M. Groom won the spot '-waltz; Mr. Gibbs and Miss Witherow won the Monte Carlo waltz. Mr. Billy Scott carried off the gentlemen’s shooting prize and Miss Shailer the ladies’. The young people indulged in dancing. During the evening the Rev. Mr. Walton, who was present with Mrs. Walton, introduced Mrs. Bain (matron of All Saints’ Home), and both thanked the Oroua Downs people for what was done annually for that deserving institution and assured everyone how welcome every donation was. They also extended a hearty invitation to all to visit All Saints’ Home at any time.
