DISPOSAL OF OLD MANAWATU BRIDGE.
REPLY AWAITED FROM M.C.C,
The question of the disposal of the old Manawatu bridge, near Shannon, was referred to by Cr. Whyte at the meeting of the Horowlienue County Council on Saturday, when he mentioned that the matter had been referred to the County Clerk, to take up with tho Manawatu County Council. So far no reply had been received to this Council’s request for consent to the calling of tenders for the dismantling and purchase of the structure. Or. Ryder asked who would bear the cost of dismantling, and the chairman replied that lie presumed that this Council would do so as the controlling body. They had a prospective buyer for a portion of the bridge. The best thing they could do would be to sell it. The idea now was to dismantle it and ask for permission to slack it in tho Public Works yard at Shannon.
