THE RAILWAYS
TIME-TABLE REVISION,
Wtellington, May 10. The Railway Department has just undertaken a big work which is expected to last all the winter, a thorough overhaul of all existing time-tables with a view to bringing them up to date. The two biggest factors which prompt the survey are the need for expediting train services and the possibility of running extra trains. The operation of the system of train control, which commences in Wellington this week, is expected to assist in swifter running. Auckland already has a miniature sj'stem run on these lines and the preparations in Christchurch are almost complete for the operation of another such system between Christchurch and Oamaru. More, however, is to be done, and the possible elimination of stops will be one thing to be borne in mind by the transportation officers.
The matter of extra trains is a purely economic question, but these will be recommended wherever it is apparent that the traffic will bear them.
