SECONDARY SCHOOLS.

EXPANSION OF SYSTEM. Wellington, May 10. The expansion of secondary education was emphasised by the Minister of Education speaking at the Secondary Schools’ Conference to-day. There were now 43 secondary schools. Pupils on the roll for 1928 numbered 15,900. The figures for 1927 were 15,000, for 1920 14,500 and in 1919 they stood r at 9,400, an increase of 09 per cent, in nine years. The total expenditure on buildings and sites in 1927 was £94,000. In regard to the effect the new primary schools syllabus would have on secondary schools the Minister said that he could not enter into details now, but it was confidently expected that the secondary schools would be benefited considerably.
