SUNDAY PICTURES.
CHARGE FOR SHOWING DISMISSED.
Greymouth, Last Night. Arthur Beban, manager of the Greymouth pictures, was charged with conducting Sunday pictures. Several officials of the Greymouth bath committee were charged with assisting. The evidence was that Beban leased a hall to the bath committee for Sunday evening at £B, the committee making their own arrangements as to staff, etc. Mr. Hannon, solicitor for the, defence quoted the English Sunday Observance Act of 1780 to the effect that an owner or lessee who let a hall to others could not be held liable. The Magistrate upheld this contention and dismissed all charges. It was stated in evidence that Sunday pictures for the past three years had netted the bath committee over £7OO.
