ASSAULT ON FEMALE.

YOUNG MAN IMPRISONED.

Charges of unlaAvful carnal knoAvledge and of indecently assaulting a female were preferred against Keith Drysdale, aged 20, a farm hand, in the Supreme Court at Palmerston North on Tuesday. The offence Avas alleged to nave been committed at Levin on February 11. Accused Avas represented by Mr. H. Cooper, and Mr. F. H. Cooke had charge of the case for the Crown.

The jury found Drysdale guilty of indecent assault, but not guilty of the charge of unlawful carnal knoAvledge. “A short, sharp sentence will teach you a lesson,” sail Mr. Jus teach you a lesson,” said Mr. Juscing him to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour. “Young girls must not be tampered with.”
