MOTOR SMASH ON WANGAEHU HILL.
WELLINGTON RESIDENTS INJURED. Wanganui, May 7. The W ! angaehu Hill is becoming notorious for motor accidents. Those involved in the smash yesterday morning near the top of the hill, were Miss Pearson, Boulcott Street, Wellington, and William Symonds, Constable Street, Wellington. An eye-witness, who was proceeding to Wanganui in his ear, states that the Wellington car was coming up fast at the rear. The driver, who did not know the road, sought to negotiate the sharp bend at the top of the hill, and the car skidded in some loose gravel. The vehicle got out of control, and backed towards the bank before leaping forward arid plunging 200 feet down the declivity. The driver had the presence of mind to put on the brakes, but this was of no avail. There ■ followed a tenific crash, which was heard for some distance, and the car came to l’est upside down after turning a complete somersault. The occupants were thrown clear during the descent, and were both rendered semiconscious. This morning both were reported at the hospital to be res-' ting comfortably. Neither was' in L jured seriously.
