GAOL FOR BICYCLE THIEVES

At the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court yesterday a young man named Ernest George Dryden, a labourer, aged 24, was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment for the theft of a bicycle in, Palmerston North, on xVpril 21. W.m. John Cook,, a labourer, aged 23 years, also pleaded guilty to stealing a bicycle valued at £l3 10s, the property of Joseph Boucher. According to the Police, accused purchased the machine in October, 1926, on time payment, paying £1 deposit and that was the last the cycle dealer saw of Cook and the machine. It appears accused went to Masterton where he exchanged the bicycle for a motorcycle which he later disposed of for £3O. Cook was sentenced to 14 days.
