AN IMPROVED HIGHWAY.
BETWEEN SANSON AND LEVIN. In proposing the toast of “Foxton and district” at the Returned Soldiers’ re-union on Thursday night Mr. J. Linklater, M.P., stressed the necessity for improved highways in this district. He said the time had arfor an improved road between Sanson and Levin —an important main highway. The condition of the present road was not good. In the past there had been an agitation for linking-up the railway between Marton and Levin, but since then transit by road bad superseded the railway and motor transport had come to stay. It was true that the farmers were asked to pay for improved highways, but the petrol tax was contributing a large proportion and the public demanded that better roads be provided.. And so far as this particular highway was converned not before it was wanted. “The demand would have to be met,” concluded Mr. Linklater amidst applause.
