METHODIST CHURCH.

WELCOME TO REV. J. H. EDMONDSON.

A welcome social wqs extended to the Rev. J. H. and Mrs. Edmondson by the Methodist congregation in the schoolroom on Tuesday evr ening. There was a large and representative attendance. Mr. J. ■Chrystall, circuit steward, presided and extended a cordial welcome to the new minister and family, and referred to church mattei’s and wished him success in his ministry in the circuit. Mr. M. H. Walker, (chairman of the Trust), and Mi’. W. E. Bullard spoke on behalf of the office-bearers and Mr. A. G. Huntley, superintendent of tho Sunday school —a position he has held for the past 18 years—on behalf of that section of the church’s activities. Mr. Riches extended a welcome on behalf of the Shannos congregation. Other speeches were made by the Mayor (Mr. M. E. Perreau), Messrs Nicholas and liornblow (Presbyterian), Rev. W. H. Wlalton (Anglican), and Mrs, Stone (Salvation Army). All tho speeches were of a very encouraging tone.

In acknowledging the welcome, Mr. Edmondson expressed his thanks to the speakers. He said he had been pleased to see such a good congregation on Sunday, which he hoped would continue. He was particularly impressed with the fine spirit of co-operation among the Christian Churches of Foxton. He said his work did not consist in making Methodists but Christians, and to develop the spiritual life of his congregation. He was not afraid of hard work or criticism and said he would be only too pleased to discuss with members, suggestions for the betterment of the church and his ministry, to advance the kingdom of their Heavenly Father. During the evening social intercourse was indulged in and solos were rendered by Mrs. Bullard and Miss Scadden. At the conclusion a tasty supper was served by the iadies of the congregation.
