At last night’s Borough Council meeting accounts amounting to £614 3s Tjd were passed for payment.

'Cabled advice . has been received from London that the proprietors of the Bank of Australasia have confirmed the resolution passed on March 29 to issue 100,000 new shares of £5, each at a premium of £6. per share. During the next few months the fleets of the Shaw-Savill and Albion Company, and the Commonwealth and Dominion Line, will bo increased by eight motor cargo ships, which rank among the largest and fastest ships of their class in the world. /A letter has been received from their London agents by the Shannon Co-operative Dairy Co., congratulating the manager (Mr. Aim), the staff and suppliers on the very high quality of the butter forwarded from the factory that has reached London during the past few months.

A tender has been accepted by the Government for the construction of the new railway station at Auckland, according to an an-, nouncement made by the Prime Minister and Minister of Railways (Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates). .The successful tenderers are Messrs J. T. Julian and Son. Ltd., of Auckland, and the contract price is understood to be in the vicinity of £326,000. The New Zealand Rugby Union publishes the statement that rugby footjball provides beneficial fexercise for nearly 30,000 players, apart from boys playing for their schools. This must assist the Dominion in building up a strong, virile, active manhood, and by being imbued with the high traditions of the game, the young men of this part of the Empire should be able to play their part nobly in the game of life in the years to come.
