GERMAN MOTOR CARS.
IMPORTATIONS NOT REGARDED AS SERIOUS. Auckland, April 12. Several German-made motor cars have made their appearance in Auckland in recent mtnths, and today much interest was taken by motoring enthusiasts in the assembling of a Continental car that was unloaded from the lonic. In the opinion of representatives of the local motor trade the German car showed marked alterations compared with models of pre-war days, but it was- explained that the horsepower was lower than that of British and American makes, which did not make it a serious competitor with them. A representative of the Auckland Motor Trade Association, said that high petrol mileage w'as claimed by German motor manufacturers, but this was based chiefly on “stunt” performances. He added that German cars, which - arrived before Christmas, had not proved a good selling line, and the association did not regard importations as a serious matter.
