STRUCTURALLY WEAK.

THE BULLS BRIDGE. LIFE OF STRUCTURE LIMITED. AN URGENT MATTER. Marton, April 4. The fact that the Bulls bridge is structually weak, and portion in mentioned in the report of Mr S. Mair, engineer to the Rangitikei County Council, at the monthly meeting of that body to-day. Mr Mair .stated as follows “While in Wellington I interviewed the chairman of the Main Highways Board and obtained copies of : the reports of the departmental inspection of the Bulls bridge. These "eports- show the bridge to be structually weak, and many important members in an advanced .state of decay. A conference was immediately held with representatives of the Manawatu County, and it was decided to immediately put in hand urgent repairs, and in the meantime to limit the gross load crossing the bridge to 8 tons. “Timber has been ordered and should be to hand in a few days, and I have arranged for the repairs to be carried out, as some of the members to be renewed are vital to the stability of the bridge and their renewal will have to be most carefully effected. “The whole policy of the future of the bridge should be dealt with at ince, as it is evident the life of the bridge, without very heavy expenditure, is limited to a few years only.”
