MOTORIST’S UNFORTUNATE PREDICAMENT.

/Misfortune befel Mr A. Steer’s two-seater ear last week. Mr Steer took the car out on to the ocean beach on Thursday afternoon to gather fire wood and on the way set a line opposite Hunia’s creek. On the return journey he stopped the car on hard sand to inspect the line. The car stalled as he commenced to pull away from the spot, and broke through the hard surface and became hopelessly bogged. A lorry was sent for but this ran out of , benzine half) a mile from the car and nothing could be done then owing to the tide surrounding the car and the approach of nightfall. That night a heavy westerly swept the coast and it was not until late in the following afternoon that the car was eventually extricated from its predicament. The buffeting it received by the waves must have been vei’y severe for the hood was completely torn off and the mudguards damaged beyond repair. The engine, however, appeared to be all right and after a thorough cleansing of the crank case functioned quite well. Mr Steer informed our representative that when the car was inspected the morning after the mishap it was in a deep hollow washed out by the waves, with just the hood above the surface.
