WORKLESS GIRLS.
TWO HUNDRED APPLY FOR, TWfENTY VACANCIES. ’
Long before Auckland business ,men were at breakfast one morning last week, a queue of over 200 girls.lined up outside the door of a big drapery establishment in the city which had advertised for 20 girls to assist in the shop during a sale. The applicants ranged in age from those budding from infancy into flapperdom to ladies who could look back many summers to the day when they courageously set out to earn their own way in the world. Those who were not in the fortunate 20 will not look forward with any feeling of comfort to the approach of winter.
