WARATAHS REACH AUCKLAND.
Auckland, March 25,
The New South Wales Rugby football team, better known as the WJaratahs, arrived in Auckland this morning by the liner Aorangi, and were the guests of the Rugby Union at luncheon.
Amongst those present were Mr. S. S. Dean, chairman of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union, Mr. J. Arneil, president of the Auckland Rugby Union, Mr. li. Frost, chairman and several members of the Auckland Rugby Union Council executive, Messrs Badeley and F. W. Lucas, members of the 1924 All Blacks, Mr. V. Y. Richardson, captain of the Australian cricket team at present in Auckland, and several reps, and ex-rep. footballers.
Mr. Dean welcomed the team and congratulated it upon its success abroad. • His remarks were endorsed by Mr Arneil.
In his reply Mr. Shaw, manager of the team, referred to the good feeling that existed between New South Wales and New Zealand in Rugby circles. New South Wales had a lot to thank New Zealand for. He was confident the game would become firmly established in Victoria and Queensland during the coming winter. It already had a footing in Victoria.
The team was taken for a motor run this afternoon and to-morrow morning a civic reception will be held.' The team will then attend the test cricket match at Eden Park and will leave for home by the Aorangi in the afternoon.
