WANGANUI BAILIFF ASSAULTED.

NOW IN HOSPITAL,

Wanganui, March 19

As the result of an assault on Saturday afternoon, Mr. John Curraft, w’ell-knowm local bailiff, is at present in Wanganui Hospital. As far as can be ascertained, Mr. Curran w’as walking along the Avenue near his residence when some other local resident known to the bailiff intimated that he desired to speak to him confidentially at the rear of the Y.M.C.A. premises. Mr. Curran had no sooner gone round the back of the building when he received some violent blows which blackened an eye and cut his ear. He was also kicked on a knee and, falling over, he dislocated his shoulder. His assailant then left and Mr. Curran after struggling to a neighbouring doctor, w’as ordered to hospital.
