TOWN ‘ HALL.
Winter sports in the Swiss Alps, including a sensational race down the fastest toboggan slide in the world, and a spectacular ice carnival, are some of the features of Adolphe Menjou’s latest Paramount Picture, “Service for Ladies,” which comes to the Town Hall Cabaret on Wednesday. Snow scenes of exceptional beauty are said to characterize this phase- of what Menjou declares to be the best picture, he has ever made.* High up in thu Sierra Nevada Mountains of Northern California, twenty-four hours by train from Hollywood, snow is to be found all winter long. By the frozen shores of Lake Tahoe, one of America’s most beautiful scenic spots, were the scenes made. A toboggan slide modelled after the famous slide at St. Moritz, reputed the fastest in the world, was constructed. There were made scenes declared by critics to be the most spectacular toboggan shots . ever filmed. In a brilliant ice carnival, staged on the smooth ice of the lake, Menjou appears in the colourful garb of a hetman of Cossacks. “Adam and Evil,” will be the featured picture on Friday evening, whilst for Saturday, Tom Mix’s latest “The Outlaw of Red River,” has been booked. Both progremmes will be screened at usual prices.
ROYAL. Milton Sills, First National star, is becoming a “foreign” actor. He*'--has been playing roles depicting various nationalities with' amazing skill. He was a Frenchman in “The Silent Lover,” in “The Sea Tiger” he was a Spaniard. Now he’s a Frenchman again in “Framed,” the' attraction at the Royal theatre Wednesday, where it is being rS^^ l Ceived enthusiastically. He is drummed out of a French Army JT during the World Wax as the result of a false accusation. He repudiates his native land and goes to Brazil to become a foreman, in the diamond fields. There he is again “framed” and sent to a penal settlement, where.he is .finally vindicated. It is a story of thrills and has a fascinating background. Natalie Kingston is leading woman. John Mil j an, E. J. Radelifie, Charles Gerrard and Ed. Peil all have admirable roles. Also “Vanishing Villain” (comedy), Cartoon and News. Prices 1/- everywhere, Children 6d. >Syd.
