ANNUAL REPORT OF THE HOROWHENUA RUGBY UNION.
The annual report to be submitted to the annual meeting of the Horowhenua Rugby District Council is as follows:
“Your Committee met regularly throughout the season and all members have attended excellently. The season opened on April 23rd and subsequent events proved the wisdom of starting the competitions early. Championship, winners in the different grades are as follows: — Senior Championship.—Hui Mai (Levin Club Cup). Nash Cup.— Miranui (Cup, Canoe and Banner). Licensed Victuallers' Cup. —Werarpa (Cup). Runner-up Junior Championship.' —W eraroa ( Cup). Third-grade Championship.—Paraparaumu (Cup). Fourth-grade Championship. —Levin District High School (Procter Cup). Primary Schools. —Foxton (Austin Banner). Primary Schools ' Seven-a-Side. — Foxton (Noad Shield). Dewar’s Imperial Trophy.—Pakehas.
“Junior Grades: —Your Committee has carried on the policy of the previous year of fostering football in the schools and in the lower grades. In this connection valuable aid was given by Mr. W. Noad, who presented a handsome shield for a primary schools seven-a-side tournament.. To encourage entries for this shield, your committee defrayed the cost; of travelling for all teams travelling to Levin. The third-grade representatives journeyed to Marton where they met and defeated Rangitikei by 14 to 3. The juniors played two representative games, winning the game against Manawatu and losing to Wanganui. It is hoped that the game with Wanganui will be an annual one.
“Senior Representative Games. Bebbington Shield.—Senior Representatives succeeded in holding the Bebbington Shield. The result of games as follows: — Horowhenua v. Dannevirke, won 38 to 13. Horowhenua v. Bush, won 20 to 14. • Horowhenua v. Oroua, won 47 to 21. In the home and home games with Manawatu each side claimed one victory. “Finance: —Your Committee were enabled to show a credit balance on the year’s working and the Bal-ance-sheet will show that £6O has been added to the amount on fixed deposit at Bank of Australasia. This result must be considered very creditable. The second of senior fixtures was robbed of interest. “Insurancelt is pleasing to record that a greater number of players insured under the Council s scheme. As a result more claims had to be met, but nevertheless £9 was added to the amount already in the Post Office Saving Bank, making the balance there nearly £6O. Your Committee regrets that a serious accident befell our worthy skipper, Mr. H. Jacob, but a good recovery was made by him and we should ' have his assistance in an advisory capacity for many moie years. “Obituary: —It was with the deepest sorrow that footballers learned during the season of the passing of one of the stalwaits of football in Horowhenua and in Shannon in particular in the person of Mr. Rewi Moynihan. Your Committee extended its sincere sympathy to the relatives of the deceased footballer.
“Thanks: —Your Committee desires to thank the Press of the District for very loyal support given throughout the season and all supporters and well-wishers of Rugby Football in Horowhenua.”
