BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Borough Council was held last evening. Reports were read and dealt with as follows: — ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman reported that during the month the staff had been engaged on the following works: — Patching breaks in bitumen road Lady’s Mile, Victoria and Robinson Streets, grubbing wattle and noxious weeds at the (Cemetery, patching ruts Cook Street and Avenue Road, cleaning round fire plugs and indicators, grading Purcell Street and Sandon Road, top-dressing footpath Frances Street, and general maintenance. The staff was now engaged in cleaning drains throughout the borough. —Adopted. Cr. Cowley reported that some lupins needed cutting on the Union Street road opposite Salmon’s residence. —Referred to road foreman. Cr. Lucinsky mentioned that the section was full of gorse which should be cleared. —Referred to noxious weeds inspector. On the suggestion of Cr. Rand it was decided to cut back the willows on the corner of Whyte and Johnston Streets. WATER AND DRAINAGE REPORT.' The waterworks foreman reported that during the month 13 chains of water pipe had been laid in Avenue Road, and six householders connected up. Three sewers connections were also attended to and general maintenance work carried out. During the month 2,575,000 gallons of water were pumped, the maximum current used being 31.5 amps. —Adopted. ’CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as fob lows: — From the Horowhenua County Council asking the Council if it was agreeable to the old Shannon Bridge being put up for sale. —Agreed to. From Mr. W. Preston, of Coley Street, made application for the installation of the high pressure water supply to his property. The waterworks foreman estimated the cost of the work at £9 10s Od. —i Granted.
■ From R. B. Hammond, town planning consultant, offering to undertake the preparation' of a town planning scheme for the Borough of Foxton in a complete form for placing before the Town Planning Board for £160.—-Received.
■From the Foxton Swimming Club, thanking the Council for the generous treatment accorded the deputation which recently waited on the Council re the installation of electric light at the baths, and for the donation of £l6 10s Od. —Received.
From the Wlanganui Education Board, expressing the Board’s appreciation for the attenlance of the school children at the baths, without charge, but regretting that the Board could.not make a grant towards the cost of water for tho baths. —Received.
From the Foxton Chamber of Commerce asking the Council to give consideration to the question of tar sealing a chain of roadway at the north end of the town. The Chamber also intimated that that body had passed a resolution unanimously supporting the Council in its action in taking over the Royal Theatre.—Held over until the question of surfacing boundary roads was given consideration. From the Main Highways Board forwarding / regulations governing the tar-sealing of main highways within boroughs. Received. From Mr. W. ,E. Riddle again requesting the Council to replace a window allegedly broken by a Council employee. —Received. GENERAL. It was decided to hold the next meeting of the Council on April 16th.
A special order was passed authorising the raising of a loan for £BSO at six per cent, per annum for Bit years, reducible by £l5O per annum, being the Council’s share of the cost of the erection of the new Shannon Bridge.
