MOTORIST ON TRIAL.
FOR WOMAN’S DEATH. Hawera, March 9. An inquest was held to-day concerning the death of Millicent Elizabeth Richter, a farmer’s wife, aged 42, who was found unconscious on the road near her home early on the evening of February 24, and who died on the following night in the hospital. The Coroner (Mr. Barton) found that death resulted from a fractured skull, sustained through Mrs. Richter being knocked down by a motor-car driven by George Cravy Smith, stock driver, of Hawera. It was alleged in evidence that Smith and a passenger, Ernest Alfred Nixon, were both intoxicated, and that they stopped after knocking the woman down, but left almost immediately when questioned by a passing motorist. Smith, who was charged _ with causing the death of Mrs. Richter, pleaded not guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
