DO YOU KNOW?
That economy of soap and soda will result if all greasy utensils are wiped with paper before washing up? If the paper is saved to light fires they will burn up much more quickly than when ordinary newspaper is used. What to do when the cake burns ? Scrape off the burnt part, brush over with the white of an egg and dust with castor sugar. Put cake in the oven for five minutes and all sign of burning will disappear. That when preparing a boiled pudding, it will never stick if after greasing the basin you sprinkle it, with castor sugar? That odd pieces of celery may be dried in a slow oven and they will then keep for weeks, and may be used in soups and stews for flavouring? That if a cake-tin is placed on a layer of saltiin a baking-tin the bottom of the cake will not burn, even in a gas oven? That a roast bird, even if old, will be much less dry if you put cold water to the depth of half an inch in the bottom of the tin? This will generate steam and will also make a much more effective basting mixture.
