The death is announced from Wellington of Captain George Gordon Smith, one time Superintendent of >, Mercantile Marine at Wellington, aged 74 years. The death occurred at Auckland on .Saturday of the Hon. Mark Cohen, M.L.C., at the residence of his daughter. Deceased * was a 1 well-known Dunedin journalist and took a keen interest in educational affairs. Deceased was aged 78 years. The death occurred in Nelson last week of. Mr. Claude E. Tatton, dentist, aged 52 years, after a long illness. Deceased was formerly in £ practice with his father in,Palmerston North and was a brother of Mrs. A. Boyes, of Wanganui/ and formerly of Foxton.
Amongst the clerical changes made recently in the Roman Catholic Arch-Diocese of Wellington are the following: —The Rev. Father J. Butler, late assistant priest to the Very Rev. Dean MacManus, Palmerston North, has been appointed parish priest of Levin. The Rev. Father P. Herlihy has been appointed to fill the vacancy.
