S.M. COURT.
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly sitting of the local S.M. Court was held yesterday before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M. ILLEGALLY ON LICENSED PREMISES. A. Dunn and D. Williams were each charged with being illegally on the licensed premises of the Post Office Hotel on Sunday, 12th February. (Constable Owen gave evidence that on the date in question at about 9.30 a.m., in company with Constable Bell, he visited the Post Office Hotel, and in a room next to the bar he found the two accused. There was no sign of liquor about. On being questiosed as to what they were doing on the premises, Williams made no excuse but Dunn, who is a carpenter, said he had arranged with the licensee to mend a bench in the bar. The licensee knew nothing about the bench but said he had arranged with Dunn to mend a lock in the bar. The S.M.: Sunday is not the time to do it. He is liable to be lined for working at his trade on Sunday. Both accused were convicted and fined £2 each with costs 10/- in each instance. CIVIL CASES. Judgment was given for plaintiff in the following civil undefended eases: — A Stark and Co. v. G. F. Walls, claim. £B, costs £1 13s 6d; Ralfc and Archer v. Haereroa Kia, £6 16s, costs £2 7s (id; Foxton Borough Council, v. 11. J. Salmons, £4 12s sd, costs £1 3s (id; M. A. Powell v. R. Shaw £lO 10s, costs £2 17s; E. Cooke v. J. P. G. Allerby £4 13s 3d, costs £1 5s 6d; A. Ross, Rough and Co. v. Iledley Bros £39, costs £4 13s (id. JUDGMENT SUMMON SES. R. Shaw was ordered to pay C. Billings £2 Is Od forthwith, in default four days’ imprisonment with hard labour.
