POSTAL THEFT.

EX-PUBLIC SERVANT FOR SENTENCE.

Marton, February 29. Ernest Nelson Butler; a married man, with five children, recently a postal employee, pleaded guilty to the theft of a postal packet containing cheques to the value of £7, also a£s note. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. It was stated that accused stole the packet in November, and on the second day of the Manawatu races cashed one cheque at a Chinaman’s shop in Palmerston North, This Chinaman formerly resided at Marton, and thus identified accused.
