Manawatu Herald THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 1928. PUBLIC SWIMMING BATHS.

THE public’ swimming baths situated in Easton Park have proved of great benefit to young and old in the community: Apart from providing healthy physical exercise, the baths have provided the means whereby a large number of children have acquired the art of swimming* Parents have been relieved of anxiety for in times past a.visit to the river for bathing purposes carried with it grave risks for beginners. It is a. pleasure to visit the baths of an evening and see young and old of both sexes enjoying a dip. The mingling of the sexes in the water calls for no complaint and the utmost good behaviour and decency is observed. Those responsible for raising money for the baths construction are well repaid by the happy results. The Borough Council, too, have-been most sympathetic and have capably controlled and maintained the baths. The 10-' cal Swimming Club, also, ;.has provided interesting and instructive exhibitions which have not only popularised the baths, but have been an inspiration to learners. It is hoped that the revenue will not only be sufficient to meet maintenance charges, but that a sum will in the future be set aside for seating and other improvements.
