CHANGE IN NAME.

MATRICULATION EXAMINA- ! TION.

Christchurch, February 21

The “matriculation” examination will in future be known as the “University entrance” examination so soon as the amendment of the Statute receives the formal consent of the Government. This was resolved on to-day by the University Council on the recommendation of th Statutes Committee. It had been proposed by the committee and was passed without discussion in open council. The Statutes Committee will now haVe to alter the names of certain other examinations, such as the engineering entrance and perhaps the university entrance scholarships. One of the minor reasons for the change is the confusion that exists in the mind of the freshman as to what matriculation really involves, A student must pass the examination and then sign the college declaration before he can keep terms in any subjects.
