An Atlantic salmon tagged in May, 1926, and liberated, was caught by Mr. Lindsay Burns, of Tiliiaru, off the mouth of the Upukeroroa River in Lake Te Anau on January 19 last. Its'history has been investigated by Mr. A. E. liefford, Government hatchery inspector, and communicated, to the Southland Acclimatisation Society, says the Southland Times. The fish, when tagged, was 2ft. Gin in length and weighed Tibs. When caught it was 30in. long from nose to inside of fork of tail and weighed gibs. Mr. Hefford considers it. probable that the fish was hatched out late in 1924, and immediately commenced its pei’iod of considerably increased growth. A sligh slackening apparently occuiied m the winter of 1925.
